A reader has submitted a possible timeshare scam alert regarding another group that appears to be operating out of Florida. The reader described the standard "Rent Your Bonus Weeks" telemarketing scam, but did state the caller already had all his ownership and account information from Bluegreen. The caller used this information to create the impression of legitimacy, and also claimed to have an affiliation with RCI- promising to pay at least $1,400 for each "bonus week" rented. It's always important for readers to remember that fraudulent telemarketers often purchase black market owner lists that are stolen from timeshare developers- and thus can easily pretend to have a direct connection to that timeshare company. The easiest way to protect yourself, is to hang up the phone and call your resort management company directly (that phone number can be found on your last maintenance fee bill). As the owner services rep who answers to check your account to see if there are any notes on your account showing your information was given to a rental service. Once you've established it's a scam, simply file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov/
........Details about the Scam I was contacted in mid-October by a company called Rent My Time, Inc. out of Orlando, Florida. They noted how they can list my timeshare bonus weeks and require $350 upfront to activate the weeks. They also made me sign documents stating obligation to pay. I activated a month ($1500). The website appears to be legitimate and there were multiple people working the system. They offered a minimum base amount of $1400 per week in exchange. They state that they get paid by RCI when they book people who get tours and actually buy points through RCI. They also had ALL my information already before I even told them - they had my address, billing information, bluegreen account number, etc....... A. Smith Did this alert help you? Jessica stated she was from Rent My Time Inc. stating I had 6 Getaway Bonus weeks from RCI that she could guarentee Rental. $1400 a week for a total of $8400 and I just needed to pay a $399 Activation Fee. She called me three different times and each time it was from a new phone number. I asked her to send me the information via email. She said she couldn't do that until she got verification from me and the fee paid then she would send the information to me via email. She was very polite, caring even to the point of telling me to have a blessed day- she thinks I am going to call her back tomorrow.

I just got the same phone call from 1833-514-2799, almost the exact verbiage from Jessica. Jessica stated she was from Rent My Time Inc. stating I had 6 Getaway Bonus weeks from RCI that she could guarantee Rental. $1400 a week for a total of $8400 and I just needed to pay a $399 Activation Fee. She was very polite and kept saying that it was easy to verify who they were. I kept explaining that this sounded like a scam. I politely told her no and that I thought this was a scam.

Just got the same phone call. They wanted my CC info then I would be put through the verification process to get my "Bonus" weeks through RCI reserved. They guarantee that after activation within 30-90 days I would receive payment for my weeks because they have a high demand in Business Conferences. I asked for documents that would solidify this and was told they will after we go through the verification process.

My husband and I are timeshare owners and he received a call from someone claiming to be with RCI and they were wanting us to book our bonus week. When I called the phone number back, the caller said he was with RCI and his company wants members of Interval International to activate their bonus weeks to them in order to sell them to their clients who will have employees traveling to Orlando, FL for different conferences. He said that we would make a gross of $1,400 a week. I asked him to explain what he means and said that we would have pay them $395 for each week (6 weeks total) and they would pay us $6,600 after taxes in 90 days. I told him it sounded too good to be true and he said he would ask his manager if we could get a discount and only pay for 4 weeks and still make the some profit of $6,600 with them throwing in the 2 weeks. Honestly, I could hear someone else telling him what to say word for word. Finally I just told him that it wouldn't work for us as I don't see how sending them money is a guarantee for us to make any money. He thanked me for speaking with me and hung up. I'm glad I didn't fall for it but I'm sure if you're desperate or think it is a good deal, it is not. I don't even have a membership with Interval International so I'm sure they just happened to pull up our timeshare ownership from some database and start trying to con hard working people out of their money. Please keep your eyes open and if it sounds too good you know it is a scam. Be safe out there.

So I just got this call. She was so nice, sounded American, directed me to a pro looking website, as I started to question things when she asked for my cc info before I got a chance to sign or review anything. Well, first asked for a direct deposit and I said no to that too. Those were the red flags. As I was looking I found this site. Glad I did. Then went to BBB. Then went to email to find this from my resort. This stopped me and saved me. Hope it does for you too.

I was contacted by International Resort Club out of Orlando, FL this month with a very similar pitch. They told me that I had six unused weeks from my time share through Hilton and that they would expire if I didn't use them or rent them out. They offered a minimum of $1,400 per week to me once these weeks were resold through their website, as long as I paid the upfront fee of $365 activation fee to allow guests to use the weeks. They wouldn't allow this fee to be taken out of the $1,400 once sold, they told me they needed it up front. When I hesitated, they transferred me to a "manager" who offered to cover two of the six weeks. They said it would take them 60-90 days to re-sell these weeks and if they didn't sell, I would get the full amount of my activation fee back.

Was just on the phone with April of Corporate Getaway Rentals claiming she would pay $1350/week for up to 8 weeks a year, every year, tax free, for my RCI Extra Vacation weeks. I would have to pay $299/week upfront. She said they are BBB rated, have 5-star google reviews, and are located in Kissimmee FL, the rental location of the country. Sounded legit. After researching and finding this website, I felt obligated to report a similar instance. I will contact RCI and my home resort to report this company. Please DO NOT fall for this-despite the numbers.

Just got this call from +1 (321) 926-4193 Sanford FL same pitch. Said he was with Show Vacation Remtals and they needed rooms for corporate conventions. Wanted me to pay $399 activation fee for each week with guaranteed income of $1800 per week. I almost have a masters in Cybersecurity so I wasn’t sold but he was good I’ll give him that!

Same as the customers above. Got a call, sounded too good to be true. pretty solid sales pitch and empathy for the customer. Acted as if they wanted to genuinely help. Then came the catch, you just need to pay $399 up front to get this $8400! When i asked for documents they even had a rebuttal script and sent me an email. However, RCI clearly states on their website they will never ask for your credit card and these folks did. Beware folks, they aren't trying to help you.

We were contacted by a Rent My Time Representative, Sebastian. I returned their call because they said it was in regards to my RCI or International accounts. They went through the plan in which I pay the $399/wk to activate each of my six weeks (total $2394), so they can fulfill the quota of what corporations need for upcoming events by renting my weeks to the corporations. I could receive $2-2500/w for RCI extra weeks or $23-2700 for Interval International extra weeks. Which now that I think about it makes no sense because I'm paying the $399 up front and then they are taking it out again when they pay me in the 60 to 90 days the $14-1600 I would be paid for renting my week.

Just got off the phone with "Russell". Same pitch: 6 weeks that are expiring. VERY caring, stated they couldn't understand why I hadn't been told this by Wyndham.

I received a very similar call to those above on 9/28/23. The company was called Orlando Stay Accomodations, osarentals.com. They looked legit, but the deal sounded too good to be true. Their website, which they directed me to, looks legit and professional, and when I questioned the caller, they had all of the right answers to make me think that a company doing this is a possibility. But, my scam radar, "too good to be true," kicked in. I called RCI (which OSA says they work closely) and they told me it was a scam.
